What the app uses, and why

Precise location. Golf Wind asks for your location while the app is in use. It's used for three things, all on your device: fetching the wind forecast for your current position, keeping the compass accurate (this is a requirement of the iOS compass sensor, not a choice the app makes), and centring the map on where you are. Your coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo (see below) each time a forecast is fetched, so that it can return wind data for the right place. They are not attached to your name, an account, or any identifier — Golf Wind doesn't have any of those to attach them to.

Satellite map imagery. The map screen is drawn using the Google Maps SDK. Loading map tiles sends standard technical information (such as your approximate location and IP address) to Google, governed by Google's own privacy policy, linked below. This is the same as any app that embeds Google Maps.

What the app does not do

• No account or sign-up of any kind — the app can't ask for your name, email or a password because it has nowhere to send them.
• No analytics, tracking, or advertising software of any kind.
• No crash reporting service.
• Nothing is sold, shared, or used for marketing, because nothing is collected in the first place.

What's stored on your phone

The app keeps two things in local storage on your device, using iOS's standard app storage: your last successful wind forecast (so it has something to show if you lose signal on the course), and your settings (tournament mode, and yards or metres). Neither of these is sent to any server the developer operates — there isn't one. Deleting the app deletes this data.

Third parties

• Open-Meteo — provides the wind forecast. Their terms are at open-meteo.com/en/terms.
• Google Maps — provides the satellite map imagery. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

Your rights

Because Golf Wind holds no account and no database of users, there is no stored personal data associated with you to request, correct or erase beyond what already sits on your own device — which you control directly by deleting the app. If you have a question about this policy or how the app handles your data, contact privacy@golfwind.co.uk.

Children

Golf Wind is not directed at children and collects nothing that would identify anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If anything about what the app collects or how it works changes, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change. There is no mailing list for policy changes — check back here.
